About the Event
A cognitive discussion on the story of the asanas. Understand the symbolism of a vinyasa style practice from start to close, and learn to embody the mythology behind each of the poses. We will begin with meditation, followed by an hour long disccussion on yogic philosophy. Afterwards, we will apply what we've discussed through an hour long asana (physical) practice.
During our time together we will have an open discussion about the story behind the sequence. Every pose is symbolic and we'll take a closer look at the origins of some of the most commonly used asanas such as the warrior poses and even downward dog. Get a clear understanding of the pronounciation of the Sankrit of each of the poses along with stories you can integrate into your classes.
We will take the poses and be able to understand their broader context in relationship with Hatha Yoga. How do these poses lead us to the ultimate practice of balance and wholeness? After our discussion, let's work through the application of the knowledge learned. We'll do an hour long asana practice to integrate the lessons and appreciate the stories shared.

Meet Alex Garza: Alex’s hometown, Washington DC was where he took his first steps into the world of yoga. A native, born and raised in the metropolitan area, Alex’s first experience with yoga was as a young child practicing postures with his oldest sister Suzette, a Master Iyengar instructor. This was the small beginning of his large yogic journey. Later in life Alex began working for his first yoga studio. In 2014 he began mentoring with his teachers at a local studio (Down Dog Yoga) in Georgetown DC. Soon after that he became a yoga teacher simply through the mentorship he received and began to deepen his self study (svahdyaya). Now as a full time yoga instructor and an ambassador for Lululemon, Alex is able to learn and share his love of the practice with everyone he meets on his path. Through this connection Alex believes we all practice some type of yoga in our lives.
