Building Stability In Your Vinyasa Flow Practice

About the Event
In this 2.5 hour workshop you will learn the functional anatomy and biomechanics of the most common vinyasa yoga postures such as chaturanga, upward facing dog, and downward facing dog. Together we will build stability through our joints and work through the fundamental strength needed for each posture. We will look at the role of the rotator cuff musculature, the diaphragm, and the deep abdominals in building a strong foundation for your asana practice. Ultimately, working from the ground up to help your body gain range of motion, prevent injuries, and build the mind-body connection needed to sustain your yoga practice for years to come. This is more than your typical alignment based workshop! This workshop is open to beginners and advanced yogis as we will demystify some of the common pitfalls to the Vinyasa flow practice. CEUs are available for yoga instructors who participate.
Items needed: This will be an active participation style workshop with education threaded throughout so come (virtually) prepared for a 2 hour practice with comfortable clothes, a yoga mat, water, and any props you'd like to use. A blanket or sitting cushion may be helpful as well and a journal to write down any notes.
Meet Dr. Ariel Ross
Ariel Ross is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, Experienced Yoga Instructor, and Yoga Teacher Educator who has been teaching yoga and movement since 2012. Ariel is trained in power vinyasa yoga and has a passion in creating a more sustainable and approachable method to practicing this style of yoga. Her classes are based in anatomy, mindfulness, and creating autonomy over your body. Ariel recently gained her Doctorate in Physical therapy and will start work in an outpatient neuromuscular physical therapy practice this fall.
