About the Event
Join Dani Reidy as she discusses the orgins of the formal school of Yoga. We will look into the history of the Vedas, The Upanishads, the Baghavad Gita, and the Yoga Sutras-- where we will lpeep into the specifics of the Sutras that correspond with what we know of today as the 8 limbed path of yoga (Ashtanga Yoga or Raja Yoga), as defined by Patanjali. We'll discuss the classical era, post classical and modern era of yoga to grasp a clearer understanding of the origins of the present day asana (posture) practice and it's founders.
We'll discuss main points from the Yoga Sutras to understand the purpose of each of the chapters, in an attempt to demystify and inform our understanding of the original intent of the the practice. Following our discussion, we'll work with some of the original postures that were provided in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, as well as the more modern approach through T. Krishnmacharya's vinyasa methodology. Specifically, we'll look at the origins of Surya Namaskara (Sun A's) before ending in meditation practice.
This is designed to be an immersive and contemplative experience for students and teachers. As you develop a greater understanding of the practice, may it transform your appraoch and your appreciation.
Class will be recorded and distributed to view whenever and wherever you want. If you cannot participate in the live workshop, sign up and receive it afterwards.
